What was your inspiration behind this song?
“Head Rush” is easily the most vulnerable song I’ve ever written. I wrote it in June of 2020, when I was seriously struggling with my mental health and had just been diagnosed with OCD. The raw honesty in this track dives deeply into my struggles with anxiety and depression, and aims to destigmatize conversations revolving around mental health.
How long have you been working on this project?
I wrote this song in about an hour, believe it or not; I’ve never had a song come to me so quickly. Discussing my personal issues with friends has always been difficult for me, so I think "letting it all out" through my music at that moment was very healing. It took roughly three weeks to produce, mix and master.
How has Covid-19 affected this project?
Honestly, I don’t know if this song would exist if the pandemic hadn’t taken the world by storm. I was at an ultimate low-point when I wrote "Head Rush" last year, and a lot of what I was enduring at the time can be attributed to the pandemic and its residual effects. In the week prior to writing this song, I had also broken my leg, lost my grandmother, and lost my dog, Bella. So, yeah, my mental health got hit pretty hard. I guess pain can be productive, at times!
Who did you work with on this project?
I worked with Jason Hart and Frantic Blue Records.
What would you like your listeners to get out of the project?
I hope that this song gives my listeners hope and the confidence to speak about their own struggles with mental health. So many people feel shame around discussing these topics, and that needs to change. It’s 2021. Everyone has inner demons to deal with. We’re stronger together, and I want this song to embolden listeners to focus more on their own mental health. It’s no different than going to the gym and getting/staying in shape!
What else can we expect from you in 2021?
Lots. I have a handful of songs I’ll be releasing before the end of the year, and I will also begin a podcast about mental health in the coming months. Obviously, I’ll be gigging quite a bit as well!
"Head Rush" available on all platforms May 14th!
