When did you realize that you wanted to become a band?
Wendy, Zach, and Ryan knew each other from musical improv, but only in 2014 did they all come together with Brian and Dan to form Mean Wendy Band.
What was the first project you created as a professional group?
The self-titled EP was our first official project as a group. We booked some rehearsal time in the studio for fun and it all came together organically so we decided to make an EP.
What has been the most challenging part about being musicians?
The hardest part (especially right now) is being able to find venues and book live gigs. As a comedy band, sometimes it is a little bit tricky to find the right balance between comedy and music, but I think we do a good job at finding the right mix between the two.
What has been the most rewarding part about being musicians?
We really appreciate the relationships we’ve built with each other. Even though we sometimes get off task and get distracted, our music is very cohesive because we’re all super great friends.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Our favorite project would have to be “Mean Wendy Band Saves the World” because it was one of the first professional experiences we had. It was a super goofy short film that we had fun with. Overall, it was just a super exciting and fun experience to be a part of.
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting out their music career?
I think it's super important to always be looking to make connections and meet new people. The more people you know, the more feedback you’re going to get to help you improve and build your craft. Overall, the most important thing to remember is to take yourself seriously and don’t be negative about yourself.
What do you have in store for your fans in 2021?
We are going to remotely record a new album, and release it later on this year. Stay tuned for more updates!
